Hill Head Sailing Club was founded in 1930 by Colonel J. S. Alston.
The club is based at Titchfield Haven which was originally the mouth of the Meon river but was blocked off to form the present tidal harbour at the Western end of Hill Head.
The aims of the Club are to foster and promote the sport of small boat sailing and above all good seamanship.
THE CLUB HOUSE
The Clubhouse, built by members, was completed and opened in 1975, with additional teaching room and boat storage in 2004 and newly refurbished bar and club room in 2009. These facilities can now accommodate our busy Sailing and Social calendar.
Our facilities downstairs include male/female changing rooms with showers and loos. There is a separate disabled toilet and lift. Upstairs we have an attractive lounge with commanding views of the Solent. A bar is operated by members seven days a week whilst volunteers produce light lunches in the "galley" each weekend. The teaching room is accessed from the lounge/kitchen area.
DINGHY PARKING AND MOORINGS
There are two dinghy parks, one either side of the harbour. Both have their own slipways, secure tie down points for all craft and fresh water hoses. The Harbour has a number of small boat moorings (up to 25 foot) which are all swing berths and tidal.
Car parking arrangements adjacent to each compound make easy access to the club and the shingle beach running along the foreshore.
Hill Head Sailing Club is a self-help volunteer organization with about 900 members. All members are expected to take an active role in either: maintaining the harbour and sailing facilities; organising both the sailing and social programmes, or running the bar and galley.
SAILING
The club has its own unique class of dinghy, the clinker built
"Jacqueline" . There is class racing for Jacquelines, Mirrors, Toppers, Lasers and a wide ranging handicap fleet.
We also have a number of Multihull and Asymmetric boats. Those who sail cruisers have their own calendar of sailing, which involves racing and cruising. Dinghies and Cruisers participate in a number of weekend cruising events. There is also a unique open event to the Club "The Triangulation" which is an interesting twist on a standard pursuit race, with all the boats starting and finishing together.
For more information on racing go to the racing page from the link and/or open meeting link.

TRAINING

|
The club is recognised as an RYA Training Establishment, Volvo Champion Club and a recognised Onboard club. We have our own fleet of Oppies, RS Teras, RS Fevas and Topper dinghies, allowing a variety of youth squads to occur without the necessity of owning a boat.
Each year the club runs RYA Dinghy and Powerboat courses. Our instructors are RYA qualified. Race officer and Racing rule talks take place throughout the year.
The club also runs two "Dinghy Weeks" during the schools summer holidays each year. The programme provides a safe and informal learning environment in which Cadets and adult members can gain practical boat handling and racing experience.

SOCIAL
A variety of social events are arranged throughout the year.
The traditional "Fitting-out" and "Laying-up" suppers are complemented by informal evening gatherings, discos and barbecues many of which are coupled with sailing events or seasonal activities. All details on the Social diary page

CLUB COMMUNICATIONS
The club produces a quarterly magazine, "Mainsheets", sent to all members so that important information related to the Club or sailing matters is passed on to everyone. Members are encouraged to send reports or topical items to the editor, to include photos if appropriate.
The Editor depends on appropriate articles from members to fill the pages, with photos and other pertinent information when available. The Editor is also the webmaster. Details of how and where to send your items are on the Mainsheets page.
Activities and announcements are also promoted using Email and advertisements in the club house.
