What do I need to know?
These notes are to assist those who are not familiar with how to arrange for their use.
Club boats available:
10 Optimists, 4 Toppers, 6 Laser Picos, 1 Laser 2000, 1 Mirror, 4 RS Fevas, 6 RS Teras and 1 Wayfarer.
All Club boats are available for hire by a Helm who is of an RYA level 2 standard, with the exception of the RS Fevas. An acquaint session is required before hiring an RS Feva, so please speak to a member of the Training Team for this.
To arrange hire, locate the grey ring binder in the Race Box. Book the boat you wish to use. PAY for it - the breakdown of costs is in the front of the book. Please put the money in the tin in top left drawer of desk.
On day of hire if not racing, do talk to the Race officer/Assistant of the day to let them know your planned activities. They will then keep a look out for you.
Do not go out unless there is a safety boat out on the water.
Also do bear in mind the Club rule that if wind strength is 16 knots or above, no Club Boats are to be taken out. Do also consider your limitations even if wind strength is less than this. Seek guidance from Race Officer/experienced club members. If you do not sail on account of the weather, liaise with Race Officer to get refund of Hire charge.
Before rigging make sure you collect the correct sails/rig from the boat house, then put them away afterwards after hosing your boat with clean water. If you spot any faults with your boat before you sail, remember to make a note of them in the defects log located in the grey ring binder. If any damage occurs during your hire, report it to the Race officer and make a note of them in the defects log. Then take steps to arrange for repair.
Please see the Sailing Notice board or club boat booking folder for more details about booking a club boat.
