Official Notice of Race (NOR) at HHSC is the Annual Fixtures List.
Members must also refer to the club sailing instructions (PDF link given below)
Useful official racing documents
The Fixtures List is the official "Notice of Race" for all racing undertaken at the Sailing Club. Open Meetings held at HHSC will have a separate NOR and this will be published on the website Opens page.
The Sailing Instructions, which work along with the Notice of race are available on the HHSC website, Sailing notice board and entrance to the Club house. The Sailing instructions are updated and reviewed regularly.
Hill Head Sailing Club is the organising authority. All races will be sailed under the Racing Rules of Sailing 2009-2012. RYA prescriptions and relevant Class Association Rules apply, except where amended by club sailing instructions.
The Race officer will place sign on sheet outside the race box before the race along with a race course diagram. Please ensure that Rules 7 of the HHSC Sailing instructions are observed with regards to signing on. For additional help speak to the Race Officer who will be happy to help with your queries.
If you are new to racing, ensure you come down with time to spare, speak to competitors in the dinghy park and also the race team. They will gladly give advice and help.

Safety and Important Information
Signing on
Please sign on BEFORE each race and keep clear of the start line until the preceding class has started. For back to back races one signature is sufficient.
Safety Boats
A club safety boat will be on duty during organised racing. If you choose to retire from a race you should inform the Race Officer or Safety Boat crew who will inform the race officer as soon as possible.
Disclaimer of Liability
Competitors participate in racing entirely at their own risk. See rule RRS 4, Decision to Race. The organizing authority, Hill Head Sailing Club will not accept any liability for material damage or personal injury or death sustained in conjunction with or prior to, during, or after Club racing.
Insurance
Each participating boat shall be insured with valid third-party liability insurance with a minimum cover of £2,000,000.
Personal Buoyancy
All helmsmen and crew, AND CADETS must wear adequate personal buoyancy at all times.
Weather and local conditions
The apparent safety afforded by the shore during an offshore wind should be treated with caution, as this may not be a true guide to the conditions just offshore. The area to the west of the club at Rainbow bank gets particularly boisterous in a SW breeze especially with a west going tide. A prudent mariner would check the HHSC Website Weather Station and www.bramblenet.co.uk for current conditions and check www.marinecall.co.uk for the actual forecast.
When sailing during non-fixtured sailing events.
Safety boat cover is available within the vicinity of the club race area on all days covered by the fixture list. Members not racing should inform the race team of their intended sailing area, ETD/ETA. When Recreational sailing, but no club activity is planned, it is advisable to ensure details of your plan are provided to a trusted individual and you have the means to contact them or the coastguard should you come into difficulty or your plan change.
This is for your own safety. If you change plans, leaving a launching trolley on the slipway during non-sailing days whilst away sailing; placing Name, Boat details ETD/ETA and intentions along with contact details in a clear plastic envelope attached to the trolley, (provided in club foyer) can help avoid un-necessary concern or initiate a directed search in the event of an accident.
Duty Teams
Team members and particularly Race Officers and Safety boat Coxwains who are unable to fulfil their duties are requested to arrange a swap with other rostered or standby members. List of standby personnel is on your personal list or in the race box.
Club boats
A number of boats are available for use to club members who have received appropriate training in their use. To use one see the Race Officer to book and pay. (Booking diary & price list in the race box)
Boat classes available: 10 Optimists, 4 Toppers, 6 Laser Picos, 1 Laser 2000, 1 Mirror, 4 RS Fevas, 6 RS Teras and 1 Wayfarer.
Club boats are not allowed out onto the water in winds above 16 Knots, unless being used for Training which has been organized by the Training Sub Committee. The Race Officer or Sailing Commodore will have the final decision whether to allow a club boat onto the water in these conditions.
