Kayaking
Kayaking is now a well established part of the Hill Head Sailing Club offer, providing members with a simple, flexible way to enjoy the water — particularly on lightwind days, for fitness, or for short local exploring.
The club has a fleet of five sit-on kayaks (four single and one triple), offering an accessible and enjoyable activity for both beginners and experienced paddlers.
Why Sit-On Kayaks?
Sit-on kayaks are stable, open and easy to use, making them ideal for a wide range of paddlers.
- Easy to get on and off
- Stable and forgiving for beginners
- Suitable for relaxed paddles or more active sessions
- A great way to explore local waters in a simple, lowfaff way
Whether you're looking for a gentle harbour paddle, some exercise, or time on the water with family or friends, kayaking is an excellent option.
A Great Asset to Our Club
Kayaking complements our sailing and rowing activities, extending opportunities to enjoy the water when conditions are less suited to sailing.
The club has deliberately made kayaking easy to access and member-led, recognising that paddling often takes place outside formal club activity times. We encourage members to take advantage of this flexibility while operating within clear and proportionate safety guidance.
Getting Started
Kayaking at HHSC follows a simple approach:
PLAN BOOK ENJOY
- PLAN: Check weather and tide, choose a suitable route, and paddle within your ability
- BOOK: via the website
- ENJOY: Collect the equipment, wear a buoyancy aid, and follow the guidance
Club kayaks are for use by members within defined operating areas. Members must hold the appropriate watersports membership. Kayaks are not available for guest hire. Kayaking remains free to use for members during the current season as we continue to build participation and make access as simple as possible.

Community & Social Paddling
HHSC kayaking is built around a friendly, informal community.
Members regularly organise adhoc paddles and small social adventures, both locally and slightly further afield when conditions allow. These are relaxed, member-led outings and a great way to build confidence and meet other paddlers. A WhatsApp group is in place to help coordinate paddles and share plans.
